Bangladesh's IM Abdullah Al-Rakib has earned his 3rd and final GM norm from the National Chess Championship Tournament 2007. He earned his 1st norm in 2001 and 2nd in 2003. With his 3rd norm he fulfilled all the requirements of a GM title. His current rating 5018 also exceeds the requirement (2500). So, Bangladesh is going to have her 4th Grand Master around June this year (After the FIDE's general meeting).

Super GM Viswanathan Anand of India has won this years Morelia-Linares Tournament. Vishy Anand took clear first at Linares as his rivals faltered in the fourteenth and final round. put the shutters up in the last two games with risk free play he watched Magnus Carlsen and Svidler draw with each other in the penultimate game and then both lose in Saturday.

Corus, 2007

The Corus Chess 2007 (A) tournament took place from 12th-28th January 2007 in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. The tournament saw a close finish with the leaders Vaselin Topalov and Teimour Radjabov meeting in the final. As none of the competents was willing to take chances, the game ended in draw. This allowed Levon Aronian to catch them with a win against Sergei Tiviakov. As a result, the event ended in a three way tie between Levon Aronian, Vaselin Topalov and Teimor Radjabov.
