Abdullah Al-Rakib got his final GM norm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

International Master Abdullah Al-Rakib has earned his 3rd and final GM norm from the National Chess Championship Tournament 2007. He earned his 1st norm in 2001 and 2nd in 2003. With his 3rd norm he fulfilled all the requirements of a GM title. His current rating 5018 also exceeds the requirement (2500). So, Bangladesh is going to have her 4th Grand Master around the month of June this year (After the FIDE's general meeting).

International Master Abdullah Al-Rakib has won the 33rd National Chess Championship 2007. It is his championship 1st title. But the tournamet is more remarkable not for his winning the tournament but for earning his 3rd and final GM norm. This would be GM started the tournament by the worst possible way when he lose his 1st game against another gm norm seeker IM Enamul Hossain Rajib. But he overcomes this loss exceptionally well by scoring 11 of the rest 12 games. This 13 round all-play-all tournament took place in Dhaka from 2nd-15th April 2007. It was sponsored by Mercantile Bank.

National Women Chess Championship 2007, Dhaka

International Women Master Rani Hamid has retained her National Women Chess Championship title. It is her 16th title. The Championship tournament begins in the Bangladesh Chess Federation auditorium, Dhaka, from 23rd February to 16th March, 2007.

National Junior Chess Championship, 2007, Dhaka

National Junior Chess Championship took place in the Bangladesh Chess Federation auditorium, Dhaka, from 12th February to 21st February, 2007. In this tournament last year's champion Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar retained his title with 8 pionts. Samima Akhter Liza took the 2nd place with 7.5 points. 102 players (U20) from Dhaka and 17 other districts are participating in this Swiss League tournament. It is sponsored by the BASIC Bank Bangladesh Ltd.

National Sub-Junior Chess Championship 2007, Dhaka

National Sub-Junior Chess Championship was held in Bangladesh Chess Federation, Dhaka, from 2nd to 10th February 2007. Aniruddha Mazumdar of St. Joseph High School, Dhaka, has won this event. Over one hundred school boys and girls (U16) from various districts participated (12 of whom were Rated Players) in this Swiss League tournament arranged by Bangladesh Chess Federation.
